Black Triangle Sighting Accounts
In Wales
Triangle over Snowdonia
Glyn Rhonwy quarry, Llanberis
Just like to share an incident my Father told me about which he witnessed around 1950. Dad was serving in the Air Ministry Constabulary guarding an ammunition dump in the mountains of Snowdonia in North Wales ( Glyn Rhonwy quarry, Llanberis. The RAF used it to store bombs and ammunition) . He was on post alone in the guard room at the main gate around 2 am and set off for a patrol.
He stated he was walking around the perimeter And looked up and saw a large black triangle passing over his head which made no sound.
It moves slowly and disappeared over the mountains. He kept it quiet fearing ridicule as many did in those days. UFO wasn’t a common name used then for these sort of sightings. When people talk about sightings being the stealth bomber….. back then they probably weren’t even thought off!

21 AUGUST 1969 - WAUNARLWYDD, SWANSEA
12.45 PM. Blue sky.
A. C. Williams of Caergynydd Road, Waunarlwydd:
"At 12.45 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, while glancing skywards to estimate the weather situation, my attention was riveted on a small, but bright object at an elevation of approximately 80 degrees from the north western horizon (i.e. almost the zenith).
It appeared as a bright star or planet, except that it was set in a bright blue sky, and appeared quite stationary, well above the cumulus clouds travelling from a west or north-westerly direction.
A pin head held at arm's length would have covered it completely and its altitude I judged as being very great indeed.
On observing it further with 8 x 30 binoculars, it appeared slightly larger, but no detail could be seen, except for a flash which occurred at irregular intervals from the lower left of the phenomenon. My view of the phenomenon was obscured at irregular intervals for about four minutes by the passage of a large cumulus cloud at relatively low altitude. When it reappeared it was apparently in the same spot.
At about 12.50 p.m. observing with the naked eye, the phenomenon became less bright and began to fade or disappear.
On immediately using the binoculars I was amazed to find that there were now three smaller points of light instead of one, two above and one below, forming a sort of isosceles triangle arrangement with the points of light at the vertices. The points of light were not visible with the naked eye and remained more or less stationary save for a slight decrease in distance between the two above, which occurred in a few seconds.
After assuming a more comfortable position to observe the celestial trio of light points I inadvertently lost their position since even through binoculars they appeared small. There was no sign at all of the bright object I first observed, the sky remaining blue and clear in that spot. The object had apparently broken into three parts. The only explanation I have considered is that of a weather or research balloon that burst at high altitude.

8 AUGUST 1979 - NEATH
When I was younger, i remember sleeping in the back garden one hot summer night. it was colder than i expected & so i had trouble falling asleep. i was therefore on my back with a blanket wrapped around my body, but looking directly up at the stars. there was a whooshing noise & a large black triangle flew over me & the house. it was bigger than the house, had no lights & made no sound except for the woosh as it displaced the air as it quickly flew over. it freaked me out so i quickly ran inside the house.
JULY 1971 - PONTYPRIDD
Exact date in July not known - ignore '01' in date panel.
Approximately 3.15 AM.
Michael Hopkins:
'During 1971 I was a student at Cardiff College of Art, while living at home, and due to my keeping weird hours, occasionally I had trouble sleeping. This one particular night I awoke around 3.15 am and decided to open my window and look at the stars. Within seconds I observed what I thought to be a satellite travelling in a north-easterly direction.
However, the "satellite", without stopping, made a 60 degree turn, then seconds later, another 60 degree turn and seconds later, yet another 60 degree turn allowing it to continue to travel on its original course. I do not drink, have never taken drugs and was wide awake during this sighting. The sky was clear as crystal on this particular night with all the stars visible.'
SUFON Note: Michael provided us with a plan of the object's course. Each time it turned it made one side of a triangle, after the third turn it was back on course, having 'drawn' an equilateral triangle in the sky. For it to do that it would have had to make a turn of 120 degrees each time, not the 60 degrees referred to above.

END OF APRIL 1977 - CAMROSE, PEMBROKESHIRE
Exact date in April not known - ignore '30' in date panel.
At the end of April 1977, a flying saucer seems to have landed - or appeared - on the ground in the middle of a freshly tilled field which is adjoined by rough pasture containing a herd of ponies.
The ponies are owned by the Camrose sub-postmaster, Josiah George. That morning Mr George and his daughter Carol were visiting the animals to take them fodder. They soon realised that something was wrong with the ponies.
They were milling around in a bunch by the gate, tossing their heads and rolling their eyes. "They were very disturbed - something most unusual," Mr George told Randall Jones-Pugh. "It wasn't just one or two - it was the whole bunch of them."
"How many ponies are there?" Pugh asked.
"Thirty. The whole bunch were all together - heads up in the air - ears up - eyes staring. It was most unusual. I said to Carol: 'What's gone wrong with the ponies today? What's frightened them?' We couldn't do a thing with them.
They were all looking in one direction so I said to Carol: 'What on earth is up there frightening them? Go and have a look.' Because I could then see something crossing the next field as I looked through a big gap in the hedge."
"Could you make out a shape?"
"Yes. Its was white, chromium-white -almost silvery and with three corners - almost a triangle."
"A triangle with the apex pointing upwards. How far from the ground was it?"
"From where we were looking it seemed to be actually on the ground."
"There was no sound with it?"
"No, not a sound."
The object which had frightened the ponies was being viewed through a ten-yard gap in the bushes at the bottom of the pasture as it traversed the next field. To find out what it was Carol set off across the grass to get a closer look.
This seemed to encourage the ponies and they trooped after her. However, when they got about halfway they stopped and simply watched as she approached the gap. She could see nothing in the next field whatsoever and, after a little while, came back.
Foddering the ponies continued, although they refused to touch the food. Some twenty minutes later they again became greatly disturbed and milled about, tossing their heads and staring down the field. When Mr George and his daughter looked in the same direction they once again saw the strange silvery object moving across the ground.
Carol then repeated her actions. She walked across the field, was followed halfway by the ponies, went to the edge of the next field and could find nothing.
It took the ponies many days to recover from this incident. Even when they were moved to another field they could be seen staring at the place where the silvery object had appeared. Josiah George said: "They were completely different.
They seemed to be expecting something. We moved them back after this to the field where they usually are but they weren't normal for at least a week. They watched every movement and every sound..."

1 JULY 1977 - MONKNASH, VALE OF GLAMORGAN
Night.
"I was fishing with my father and his friend at a local beach known as Monk Cwm Nash on the South Wales coast. We were fishing at night with the rods pointing skywards and obviously we were looking upwards at the rod tips checking for fish takes. It was a beautiful calm and warm summers night.
Sometime during the night my father called out to me to come over to him about 50 feet away. He was pointing upwards towards the north where he told me to look at the flashing lights. As there is an airport near my first thought that it was a plane but I soon realised that wasn't the case. It was a clear starlit night and the three of us could clearly see 3 red flashing lights.
They were flashing in a triangular fashion in that as one faded out the next would light up and so on completing a triangle motion. We couldn't see an outline or anything, just the lights.
They didn't progress across the sky and appeared to be stationary. It was impossible to estimate an altitude as obviously there is no reference point to base it on. It was also impossible to guess its size except to say that if it was one craft we were looking at it must have been huge. We watched them for a couple of minutes when they extinguished completely and we didn't see them again although at that time we fished that beach almost weekly."

NOV 5TH 1977, DAFEN, LLANELLI
At least 3 or 4 of us were lighting fireworks at a friend's house on that evening, after dark naturally. We were between 7 and 10 years old. During the lighting of the bonfire, one of my friends pointed up to the sky and said, "Oh look, there's a UFO." We had no auditory warning of anything flying above us and we looked up.
We saw a large black triangle flying extremely slowly and silently above us with a diffuse orange light at each apex. We watched it move silently over the houses and then turned and drifted into a low cloud. We didn't see it again.
We didn't know how high it was or how large, but it seemed huge to me and drifted silently in a way that seemed impossible for conventional aircraft. I've never seen anything like it in all the years since, whether at air shows or at airports.

9 JANUARY 1978 NEATH
7.15 PM. Five people were in Addison Road, Melin, Neath. One of them, 20-year-old Gary Jones, of Walters Road, Neath, was repairing his car and saw an object in the sky.
Gary Jones: “It had three main lights which were flashing. It looked like an aeroplane at first, but it couldn’t have been because there was no noise.”
He described the UFO as having a straight bottom with the sides rising to a triangular shape. It was white in colour.
Within minutes of the object moving off in the direction of Jersey Marine (south-west), another came into view travelling on the same course. Similarly shaped, it hovered in the sky before following the path of the other UFO.

8 OCTOBER 1978 - PENYSARN, ANGLESEY
10.40 PM.
The chief witness was travelling in his car along the Penysarn by-pass, in the direction of Dulas [heading south]. As he came onto the by-pass, out of the corner of his eye he noticed a strange light quite high up to his left. This passed over the car in the direction of Carmel, then remained stationary. The witness then stopped at a friend's house and three others came out to watch.
At first, nothing was seen and two went back in, but then, from the general direction of Carmel, a small orange speck appeared in the sky, growing in size. The other two were called out again to watch the object, which was like two saucers joined at the rim by a black band. Not all that high up and at first just hanging in the air, it then began to move slowly towards the startled witnesses.
Suddenly it reversed direction and veered slowly off to their right, tilting as it did so. As it performed the tilting manoeuvre it appeared to change shape, taking the form of a triangle with its point uppermost and showing two square protrusions near its lower points.
Apart from the black band, it was orange in colour and although having a distinct shape, there was was an orange glow around it. No sound was heard. Finally, it shot away rapidly in the Rhos-Y-Bol direction and was lost in the glare of the lights from the Shell tank farm near Rhosgoch.
The investigator comments that he didn't consider the witnesses were jumping 'on the Llanerchymedd band wagon.'

Saturday [?] 8 AM. A huge black triangle moved over village, no sound, three domed lights, solid. Up to 500 feet away from witness, at treetop height.
Moved in a straight path. Had three domed lights visible.
“Upon witnessing this event, I ran home approximately a quarter of a mile. Immediately drawing the family’s attention, but there was no sign of the object. The following day, Sunday, the object was reported in the national newspapers. It took too long to run home that night, the object should still have been visible as I monitored it all the way home.
But in the seconds it took to call family it had gone. Also I have a memory of a device, a circular magnetic device, I could draw from memory. That night it took too long to run home, I can’t remember how I got from the rugby field to my street, and the speed in which the object moved, it should have still been visible. Various people throughout the village also saw the object independently.”
[SUFON Note: 31 May 1984 was a Thursday, so the following day would have been a Friday, not a Sunday as stated in the witness account – and for it to have been reported in all the national papers on Sunday morning would have been impossible – some details must be incorrect].

CWMBRAN 1984
26th December 1984
The greatest experience I have had was on boxing night, 26thDecember 1984, at approximately 5.30pm – 6.30pm. My wife, 3month old son and I were travelling home from my sister’s home in Cwmbran where we had spent some time with other family members. As we approached the traffic lights by St. Mary’s church at the junction on Malpas road for Bettws (we were headed straight on towards the town centre), I noticed two large perfectly circular lights above the horizon, larger than headlights on cars on the road and quite some distance apart. I asked my wife if she could see them (we stopped at the red traffic lights At the time) with which she replied that she could see them and asked what I thought it was.
I told her I didn’t know but we should keep an eye on it and hopefully we would get a better look when we come out of the motorway underpass (you would relly need to see the actual road layout to really understand why I said this). As we came out of the underpass we could still see it and it looked really close. As we reached (what was called then) the Harlequin roundabout, we realised it was just in front of us and a few hundred feet in the air, stationary. Not a sound from it.
A few moments later the two headlights went out (looked like they closed up). 3 much smaller bright lights lit up in a large triangle shape followed by even smaller white lights outlining the full triangular shape. Then the triangle filled with sparkling, tiny, electrical/white/blue type effect. At this point you could actual make out a solid object. A triangle with various shapes (difficult to explain). Then a red light came in the centre and started pulsating towards the point (which eventually appeared to be the rear of the craft as the craft moved off flat end first where the headlights had been earlier). Then very slowly and totally silent, it started to move off towards Cwmbran.
We must have been watching it for at least ten minutes and each time something happened, I would ask my wife if she was seeing the same thing and each time she assured me we were seeing the same thing. I telephoned the police to report it and just received disbelief, sarcasm and asked if I had been drinking.
10 JANUARY 1986 - SWANSEA
7.49 PM. Witnesses saw a triangular shaped object with six lights on each corner flying low over Derwen Fawr, Sketty.
It then went down over the Clyne Valley. They then ‘heard a funny noise’.

PONTYCLUN
It was September or October 1987 just after dusk but not completely dark. I live on the edge of Llantrisant old town overlooking Llantrisant Common. I noticed a shape in the sky which looked vaguely triangular. It was travelling roughly east to west but I only noticed it when it was overhead.
It was about the length of the Plough. At each ‘wingtip’ were three small lights making up a smaller triangle. There was another light near the ‘nose’ and one towards the ‘tail’. I noticed no other lights. It moved fairly swiftly and was only visible for about 30 seconds. At first I thought it was a refuelling exercise, but soon realised they’re not supposed to do that over land, so I assumed it was a low-flying passenger aircraft as we are on a main flight path and we do see them from time to time but this would have been very low. In the gloom my brain could easily have filled in the lines between the lights.
At the time I had never heard of Black Triangles. It was only years later that I heard about them and thought that perhaps was what I had seen. I’ve googled them but couldn’t find anything for this area at that time. I seem to remember they had been spotted over Swansea or further west.

SPRING 1996 TOWNHILL SWANSEA
TOWNHILL SWANSEA
One clear night in the spring of 1996 (or 1997), Kyle Chalmers, 26, was walking up Gors Avenue at about 11.30 PM. He was returning home in Townhill after attending an engagement party in Landore.
He had just passed the garage at the bottom of Gors Avenue (eastern end) when he spotted an object overhead and slightly to his right. It was rectangular in shape, completely red with two circles in slightly darker red in its centre.
It was moving without making a sound from east to west, then it suddenly changed course downwards at a right angle, then changed back onto its original course, again making a right angle turn. It then disappeared from sight instantly, as if being switched off.
The duration of the sighting was about 10 seconds.

WELSHPOOL
Approximately 6.15 PM.
Michael Hopkins:
'I was returning home from Valle Crucis Abbey, Llangollen, after attending a meeting in my role as Project Manager employed by CADW: Welsh Historic Monuments. As I was passing through Welshpool, via the town, as the A483 bypass had not been constructed at this time, I was aware that the five or six cars in front of me were slowing down. I could not see anything on the road ahead that would be causing this, but I noticed that the driver of the car immediately if front of me was looking to his left.
Almost at a standstill, I looked to my left and saw three coloured lights, red, white and blue in the formation of a triangle just hanging in the air above some trees. The triangle formation began to fall like a falling leaf. It then began to rise in two steps. The formation undertook this falling and rising sequence a number of times before, for some unknown reason, I looked to my right and upwards. There, slowly travelling across the sky in a north-easterly direction, was an orange light. After observing the orange light for about 10 seconds or so, I turned my gaze back to the left where the triangle formation had been performing, only to find that it had gone.'
The location where Michael had stopped is just outside the south side of the town.

NOVEMBER 1993 SWANSEA
7 PM one evening, conditions dark with street lighting on, weather, dry and partly cloudy. Mark Rayworth, aged 18, was standing in Powys Avenue, Townhill, and looking in the direction of Swansea city centre (south-east), when he saw a black triangular shaped object at a height of about 300 feet.
It was travelling at a very fast speed, maybe 100 to 200 miles per hour, from over the city centre towards his location. It then veered sharply to its left towards the direction of Mumbles, disappearing into clouds.
He stated there was no sound, and no trail left behind.
The triangle had a white light on each corner of its underside.
He could not estimate its size.
He saw it for only a brief few seconds. He stated that he did not believe the object was of this planet.

Evening.
Two cyclists were riding along the B5429 near Bodfari just before Christmas when they spotted what they described as being "a blue triangle" come out of the sky and hover about 100 feet above the ground. They said they saw a very bright flash in the sky that gradually descended and assumed the form of a blue triangle.
Large in size, about the size of three houses in length, the object had white sparks coming out of either side. They saw the object again later the same evening, and again the following night but that on this occasion the object was flashing blue and red and that something appeared to emerge from the object before retreating back inside it.

21 NOVEMBER 1996 - PENPARC, CARDIGAN
8.45 PM.
Mrs Patrica James was watching television at home in Penparc, near Cardigan. Suddenly she heard a noise like the low rumble of distant thunder. It gradually grew louder, until it had developed into a very loud roar. She said:
"The sound felt as if it was penetrating my chest. I asked my husband what it could be then I decided to go outside and investigate. At first I couldn't see anything, but the noise was so intense, I decided to stay outside. I looked up at the sky, over to the right of me and then I changed my position and looed over to the left. It was then that I saw a huge triangular object travelling slowly, just above rooftop height. It was clearly a triangular shape with curved tips and there were red and blue lights on the tips."
There was a silvery bright light surrounding the craft, which was clear against the night sky. There was another object following it, with a single white flash. The triangle travelled at the same speed until it was out of sight. Mrs James reported that the object was, "Grey, but not matt grey."
The size estimate was approximately 8" wide at arm's length. The craft appeared from the North West and at a slow, steady speed, disappeared towards Cardigan in the South East [Shouldn't that be North East to South West? - E.W.]

Lisa Dandon (aged 14) saw a light over the Sugar Loaf Mountain:
"Started out as a large bright star above the Sugar Loaf Mountain. It was stationary for a long while until the star started to move across the sky.
The light went out, but as I searched the sky and then my eyes got used to the dark, I saw a triangle shape with a dark circle shape inside. When directly above us, in relation to size, it probably would have been as big as a folded A5 sheet if you held it at arms length above your head. When the UFO was in light form it moved as quick as you would expect from an aeroplane to travel. As it changed to the dark triangle it sort of moved really slowly, hovered for about 5 minutes directly above us, then continued to move slowly over the Blorenge Mountain.
Duration of sighting: 10minutes.

He saw a huge black triangle moving from west to east, directly in line with his house. It passed over the house and he was convinced that it would hit the top of the mountain behind his house, but it passed without incidence.
The witness is known to us and full details will be published by the witness himself in due course.

5 - 6 JULY 1997 - LLANWONNO FOREST, MID-GLAMORGAN
10.15 PM. Clear sky.
A large triangular object 'larger than a B74?' was seen hovering over Llanwonno Forest. The witness, a man at home in Pontypridd watched it for about an hour, also with binoculars, stating that it had multi-coloured flashing lights.
There was no sound or smell. It was at an elevation of between 30 and 40 degrees at a distance of two miles from the observer.
It hovered and moved slowly east then west then east again at high speed. He contacted the police and they radioed UKP32 helicopter which was returning to the heliport (police helicopter). The helicopter investigated but only observed a 'party' with lights at a caravan park.
The witness telephoned again at 12.05 AM and was informed of this. The witness phoned again later, and said he had climbed a hill with his wife and had seen the object move. He also saw the helicopter, with the object apparently avoiding it.
At 12.50 AM he phoned again. The object had returned. This time he had managed to take some video. Police operations at Cardiff were informed.

5 JULY 1996 - TREFOR, LLEYN PENINSULA
Afternoon.
John Hughes of Caernarfon was with a work-mate in Trefor, on the north coast of the Lleyn Peninsula when they saw what he described as a small grey/black metallic triangular craft, which was flying horizontally and going out towards the sea. It was about 23 feet at the base. A plane went after it and it seemed to pull along as a kite does when against strong wind.

14 MAY 2001 PORTH RHONDDA
6.50 AM.
Clear sky. A husband and wife, at their home in Porth, Rhondda, together with their milkman, saw a ‘tennis ball’ sized object, described as being round at the front, with a triangular back, rainbow-coloured and very bright. It was higher than a plane and was moving in a northerly direction at an elevation of about 45 degrees.
They saw it for about 5 seconds, as it crossed approximately three roof-top lengths in their field of view. There was no sound or smell associated with it.
LATE SUMMER 2003 - PENNARD, GOWER
11 PM - dark and warm
Paul was living in Pennard and was taking his dog for a walk before bed. He was in the ruined Pennard Castle on the edge of Pennard Golf Course, having a pee, when he suddenly saw a laser hit the castle above his head and it moved around as if writing very quickly on the wall for a couple of seconds. It was yellow, green and red in colour. He was shocked by the sight and looked behind him to see if he could see the source, someone with a laser pointer maybe, from the direction across the Pennard Valley (west) but there was nothing to see.
He walked out of the castle, baffled and looked out over the sea. A few triangular-shaped green and red lights flashed on then off, on then off. He assumed by the way they flashed that the object on which the lights were flashing was rotating. Then he saw something or things, fly fast and silently across the bay, about a mile out going east (his right to left) and about 500 ft above sea level, and slowly flashing. These he described as being revolving triangles. The motion he later described as rotating forward or tumbling.
"Three lights flashing slowly on and off but it was obvious by the way the lights were flashing that the vehicle was rotating forward as it went... on 1 sec, off 1 sec... but the lights were in a different position and it was silent. Definitely not a helicopter and couldn't have been a jet - there was no wind - it was a completely still dark night."
He watched this for a few seconds, not moving particularly fast but he thinks over 150kph. They were invisible between flashes blacking out in a very steady solid flight-pattern but not like a helicopter. They flew across Three Cliffs/Pobbles Bay towards Pennard.

AUGUST 2003 - WHITEFORD POINT, GOWER
Morning, blue sky.
Elizabeth was with her husband, two daughters and three dogs and staying at their caravan at Whiteford Bay in Llanmadoc. They often went down there at weekends, and one hot Saturday morning in August 2003, they went for a walk towards the lighthouse off Whiteford Point. Paddling over the beach most of the way there and back.
Elizabeth decided to go into the water for a swim. She swam out and around, out further then turned to swim back to shore. It was then that she saw what at first she took to be a plane, high up in the blue sky.
It was bright white like an ordinary plane shape, but she couldn't make sense of it due to its large size. It was moving slowly, without any sound. She understands lack of sound due to it being so high up, but its huge size meant her think it was not a plane.
She compared it to, "one of the old zeppelin shapes but thinner".
She had stopped swimming by now and just looked at the object. Then she was startled to realise that it had stopped moving. Her husband was too far away to hear her trying to call to him to look. She pointed but he didn't look up.
"Then this enormous puff of white smoke appeared to the back of the plane thing and my heart sank thinking it was going to crash. It wasn't like the smoke trail planes leave in the sky, it was the size of 'cooling tower' smoke. My mind was racing, get out of the sea, get up to the mountain as it would crash there, got to get help. I felt helpless, yet it was still motionless in the air."
30 seconds after the smoke had appeared it vanished completely, and so did the white smoke. By the time she had got back to her husband to tell him, all there was was blue sky. He believed her as they had seen odd things before.
After this experience, her husband called the area from the mountan along Broughton Sands, 'Alien Point'.

30 NOVEMBER 2005 SWANSEA BAY
7 PM
They’re back – strange lights have been seen in the sky over Swansea again. Three triangular-shaped orange lights have been spotted zooming across Swansea Bay. The eye-witness, a retired 3 M worker, said the lights were baffling and he is appealing to anyone who can help solve the mystery.
The sighting is similar to reports of strange triangular flying objects seen over Gower last September. The latest incident happened just after 7 PM on Wednesday. Sixty-two year-old Tudor Williams, from Loughor, said he and a friend were walking along the seafront near Blackpill when they spotted the unidentified objects.
“It was a cloudy night but just after 7 pm the clouds began to break up,” he said. “Then we saw it – this triangular object came speeding towards Mumbles from the Kilvey Hill area. It was travelling at an incredible speed. Then a second one came from the Mumbles direction. They flew towards each other and stopped dead still.
They were joined by a third object, then, in a pyramid shape, the three of them flew off inland across Gower. It all happened so quickly, it was all over in 20 seconds. We couldn’t believe what we had seen. I don’t believe in flying saucers and all that but now I have seen something I just can’t explain. It was like nothing I have ever seen before.”
A spokesman for the police said today that they had received no reports of flying lights in the sky over Swansea on Wednesday.

WINTER 2006 TREBOETH, SWANSEA
11.30 PM
On a Thursday night in the winter of 2006, at 11.30 PM. Clear sky. Mark Rayworth, aged 31, was standing in Heol Fach, Treboeth, Swansea, when he saw what he described as an elongated triangular-shaped object, heading northwards, in the direction of the Llangyfelach, at a height of about 200 feet. Whilst the object appeared to be of a white colour, what made it unusual was the fact that it seemed to be materialising and dematerialising as it moved.
The object, which was moving fairly quickly, eventually disappeared from view. No lights or sound was observed.

JUNE 2007 - LLANDUDNO
Exact date in June not known -.
'My girlfriend and I were having a picnic on the Orme late afternoon in June 2007. We had been watching a jetski in the bay for several minutes. A minute or so after the jetski had disappeared round the headland towards the town, my girlfriend nudged me and pointed to something in the bay. It was a triangular or boomerang shaped dull metallic object about three metres-five across moving right to left extremely fast about two or three metres above the sea which was pretty calm.
It was completely silent and had a straight trajectory and did not alter height. We only saw it for four-five seconds as it crossed our field of view between the two headlands but it was difficult to explain having just recently gauged the speed and sound of the jetski. It certainly wasn't a bird or anything else I could explain immediately.

Martyn Gale (28), in Melincourt, Neath Valley, saw some unexplained lights in the sky.
"They were like triangles but not triangles they had blue green and bright white lights more bright white than the other colours."
The three sets of lights were flashing and 'dancing' in the night sky in the same area.
They suddenly shot off at tremendous speed.

8 DECEMBER 2007 BRYN, PORT TALBOT
9.30 / 10 PM.
David was with his wife and were driving from Maesteg with their 4 year-old daughter after having picked up David’s mother, brother Andrew and sister to stay with them in Pontarddulais. They had just passed the village of Bryn on the B4282, heading west and his passengers in the car suddenly said, “Look at the lights!”
David couldn’t see anything at first, so pulled the car in near a side farm track. All got out of the car and looked up. They saw two very large, low-flying, triangular formations of lights. Each triangle was formed of three amber lights, one at each corner, with a cluster of red and white lights in the centre of each triangle.
There was one flashing light in each of the two triangles, but more noticeable in the front one, which was ahead of the other, and staggered in formation. The amber lights weren’t bright and there were no beams coming out, more like a glow.
As they flew over, the front one ‘dipped its wings’ like a plane would, and as it did so, one light went out view. The two objects had come over the mountain from the south on their left, moving slowly in a straight, level profile. They headed north over the Afan Valley towards Neath, taking about five minutes to go out of sight. There was no sound at all coming from the objects.
A car went past them while they were viewing the objects. Everyone was staggered and talked about it for the rest of the evening.
David reported it to the MOD.

26 FEBRUARY 2009 - HENGOED
8.15 PM.
Samantha Williams (32) was returning home from shopping when she saw a triangular object, "sort of hang-glider shape", at low altitude.
She said it looked like it was burning and bright. It hovered above her, her mother and a friend in the car. She stopped the car and got out, causing chaos with the traffic.
She tried to photograph the object with her phone but it did not come out very clearly. The object then looked like it was moving towards her but then shot upwards and disappeared.
Duration of sighting: 8 minutes.

SUMMER 2009 MANSELTON, SWANSEA
8 PM one evening.
Mark Rayworth, age 34, was standing in a lane at the rear of Kildare Street, Manselton, Swansea. He saw what he described as a boomerang or triangular ‘wing’ shaped object, at a height of 300 to 400 feet.
It was a large brown colour and made no sound. He was unable to estimate its exact direction or speed. It appeared flying straight ahead, but suddenly swooped sharply upwards, and as it did so it emanated sparks from behind it. It disappeared out of sight vertically.
He observed it for about 2 seconds. He believed that the object was not of this planet.

5 SEPTEMBER 2009 - BLACKWOOD
1.40 AM.
Bethan Davies (15) saw a triangular-shaped object with 4 lights at the back. Two were flashing red, the other two were a bright white.
"The UFO was smaller than a normal plane. Dropped from the sky very quickly, then slowed down and went very slowly past my house. Some people told me it was just a plane after, but it was flying very low, about 15 ft above my house, it didn't have wings, just a triangle."
Duration of sighting: 1 minute 15 seconds.
1 MARCH 2010 - TREGARTH, GWYNEDD
8.40 PM.
Three friends, Kevin Pople, Sion Hughes and Sion Jones were in Tregarth and saw:
'... a large, black triangular-shaped craft appear out of nowhere heading in the direction of Mynydd Llandygai. The craft had numerous glowing (not flashing) bright lights on either side (white, blue and red) and was hovering slowly at a very low altitude (a few feet above the height of the telephone pole).
It made a noise similar to that of a lawnmower, and made no attempt to evade detection.
The sight of the craft left us in a daze, my friend Sion Hughes was on the mobile speaking with Dwayne Roberts at the time. In all fairness neither one of us reacted quick enough with the camera as were numb with shock.'

5 JULY 2010 - CARDIGAN BAY OFF BARMOUTH
11.05 PM.
John Greenlees was at his home on the prom in Pwllheli when he heard a car screech outside. He went to the window, and noticed an orange light in the sky approximately over Barmouth across Cardigan Bay. It remained stationary for about 30 seconds before moving to the right (south).
He decided to view the object through binoculars and was surprised to find that the light was actually three in a triangular formation. About two seconds after viewing it through his binoculars the object suddenly moved away at speed along the coast further to the south in the direction of Aberystwyth.

1 AUGUST 2010 - NORTH CORNELLY
10.15 PM.
Peter Hewitt (25) was with his girlfriend when they saw a triangular-shaped object. It was a very bright orange in colour. He thought it might have been a plane but it was very low and there was no sound. It flew over their heads and then just disappeared from the sky in an instant.
Peter managed to record it on his phone for a full two minutes, but when he tried playing it back he found that the file was corrupt. However he did manage to capture it for about 20 seconds up to when it disappeared.
Duration of sighting: 2 minutes.

16 AUGUST 2010 - GRIFFITHSTOWN, PONTYPOOL
10.30 PM. Clear night sky.
Radio Producer, Steve Powell was taking a walk through Griffithstown Park after posting a letter. He noticed a bright red/orange light approaching from the north and heading south towards Cwmbran and Newport. It was travelling very slowly and at first he thought it was an aircraft flying towards Cardiff airport, or maybe a helicopter. However, there was no sound and as it went overhead, the light seemed to dim and fade.
As it did, Steve could now see that it was a black triangular-shaped object against the dark sky. At this point it started to travel at speed and seemed to be moving from left to right in his viewpoint and "looked in free fall." It continued south and eventually over the rooftops of houses nearby. Steve said it was either low or very high and large.
No sound was heard from the object. Steve added that it appeared again later (if same object) travelling east to west.

6 AUGUST 2011 PORT TALBOT
9.30 PM. Steven Griffiths was travelling west on the M4 at dusk, heading west on the way to Llanelli. He noticed a light just ahead of him at quite a low height. While passing Port Talbot, he said it went over his car and then saw it through the side window just before it disappeared over a mountain on his right.
He described it as being triangular in shape with about 5 large circular yellowish lights along the leading edge and one further back on what might be a tail.
He added that the lights were “very bright and very large, nothing at all like navigation lights. It was lit in a way that seemed to want to attract attention.”
He said that he was certain that it was not a helicopter or commercial aeroplane.

19 JANUARY 2012 - RHYL
10 PM.
Kirsty, Charlie, Sophie, Paige and Lily were travelling by car back to Rhyl from Prestatyn [A548], heading west, and saw in the distance at first, two bright lights that seemed to be hovering over the golf course to the right of the road just before Rhyl. As they got closer it still had not moved, so they pulled over and got out of the car to have a better look.
'We looked up at this thing in the sky which was extremely low for an aeroplane as we first thought it was!! And now we could see three lights in a triangle sequence. It started to move towards us very slowly as it got closer and now was above us, we could see the outline and the shape as it was very low maybe no more than 6 houses high!! It was a triangle shape, and made no noise whatsoever!!'
After a few moments it suddenly speeded up and vanished into thin air.

12 FEBRUARY 2012 - LLANDRINDOD WELLS
8.35 PM. Clear night.
Linda had left her house to do some washing in her outbuilding and noticed a bright orange/red orb about 200 ft in the air. It was close to a metre in diameter and moving slowly above a tree line then making its way over houses a few streets away. She watched as it progressed slowly in its course, when suddenly it disappeared in a flash along trees in the distance. She said:
"In no way was this a Chinese lantern as it was an orb in shape and was low enough to be able to distinguish that it wasn't a lantern. There was no noise just complete silence and it was a clear crisp night. The only thing that even remotely looks similar is the ghost light or red orb on YouTube from Indonesia or off Nat Geo ghost lights mystery."

7.45 PM.
A man (husband of Val who reported 3 discs on 25 December 2011), saw a triangular shape passing over him in Rhosllanerchrugog, in the same spot that his wife had her sighting. There were three large very bright circular disc-shaped lights in the corners of the triangle.
It passed over him silently at speed, heading towards Wrexham in the north. It disappeared into low clouds.

3 APRIL 2012 - ROSSETT, WREXHAM
Approximately 10 PM.
Lewis Arnold was with a friend driving around and stopped at the top of a hill in Rossett, north of Wrexham to look at the view. They saw what they thought looked like a helicopter moving around, and turning at sharp right angles, forming squares. Looking closer, they then realised that the craft was extremely thin in thickness, and made noise, so clearly no helicopter.
They sat there for a couple of minutes longer and then realised that the object was getting nearer to them. They decided to drive away and as they did so it had close enough for them to see that it was a black triangle.
As they got further down the lane they crossed paths with the object and as they did so they stopped the car suddenly and looked up at it. They saw that was at a height of about 30 feet, and it had stopped to hover directly over them.
They could not not hear a sound from the object and so turned the car engine off to listen. They could hear a faint hum coming from it. Lewis said he noticed that underneath the triangle it had thick white lines going from each corner and through the middle, and it also had a light at each corner.
"We stood there outside of the car in awe for what seemed about two minutes just thinking, what the hell is this! We couldn't believe what was happening! I didn't think to take a photo at this point because I was in so much amazement, and trust me, this has killed me ever since it happened because it could have been the best evidence ever as we were that close to it!"
They got nervous after about two minutes of looking up, got back in the car and drove away quickly. They noticed that the craft did not follow them and they went straight home.

“Sat out the garden having a cig, stargazing and an orange blurred triangle shaped object flew over at speed. This was no further up than a helicopter would fly, no flashing lights just an orange/amber colour as though it was reflecting our street lights colour.
This moved so fast, faster than a helicopter and absolute silence. So shocked I rang my brother at this hour to tell something. I’ve seen many shooting stars and this as not one, I can not explain what I just seen.”

“I was standing on my drive seeing my son and grandson off in their car when I heard a noise, looked up and saw 3 lights in the sky travelling from the direction of the Brecon Beacons.
The front light was I think red and the other 2 white, all looked as though they faced downwards and had a halo around them. Afterwards I conferred with my son as it happened so quickly we both weren’t sure if the first light was red or green but we agreed red. As I looked I realised my eyes could see a triangle. The points appeared rounded. It was dark. No trail or anything else.
Lights weren’t flashing. The craft was quite large and was travelling at a fair speed i.e. not slow, not fats and making a droning noise. My son and grandson saw it as well, but he was too late to get his camera phone.”

Between the motorway and the DVLA office building on their right, and at about 30 degrees elevation, was a triangular black object displaying three white lights.
They could not tell if it was moving as they were in a moving car. The object was lying horizontally, and they were viewing it’s underside from their perspective. There were no flashing lights.

25 SEPTEMBER 2014 FFORESTFACH, SWANSEA
5.45 PM.
Nigel and Susan Morgan were driving up Carmarthen Road in Fforestfach at dusk on his 50th birthday, having been shopping in a nearby shopping centre and were returning home to Gendros.
They were just passing the war memorial in slow traffic, facing east heading towards Swansea when Nigel, who was in the passenger seat had a feeling that he should look up, so wound the window down and put his head out.
Looking up, he saw a huge matt black triangle hovering about 70 feet up. It had rounded corners and had four off-white round lights, one in each corner and one in the centre, the lights weren’t bright, but just had a dim glow. It was large enough to cover the two lanes on their side of the dual carriageway.
The black body of the craft was dull, not reflecting any light. It followed them up the road for a little way, and near Fforestfach Cross, it “disappeared in a split second” as if someone had switched it off”, said Nigel, “I was still trying to comprehend what was going on, then, ‘click’ – it was gone.”
There was no sound coming from the object during the sighting. Susan did not see the object because she was concentrating on driving.

3 FEBRUARY 2016 - TRIANGLE UFO OVER MID-WALES
9.10 PM.
The witness, living in Llansantffraid-ym-Mechain, a small village in Powys, went outside for a cigarette and noticed something in the distance, just above the skyline. At first thought, the witness took it to be a helicopter or plane, not an unusual occurrence at this location.
However that notion was discarded as the object seemed to be stationary and appeared to be hovering. It had three red lights in a triangular formation, with a blue-white blinking light in the centre.
Some bangs were heard in the distance that sounded like something impacting rather than a gunshot or firework, and then the object disappeared. Around 30 seconds later it reappeared and began rapidly gaining altitude.
As it ascended the red lights disappeared. Within about 45 seconds it was ell above the witness's head and moving to the east towards Four Crosses (south-east), about a mile away.
The witness watched it as it travelled at speed, noticing a smaller orange steady light behind the bluw-white one. It was observed for roughly a minute until it had flown out of sight.
"I attempted to get a photo or video of the object but unfortunately I only had my mobile phone to hand and the camera couldn't pick up the lights, presumably due to its distance.
My only thought is that this could've been a remote controlled camera drone, but it appeared to be very large and moved large distances in a short time, making me think that it would've traveled out of the range of a remote control, and as to why anyone would fly a camera drone in a countryside town, in the dark, is beyond me. "

TRIANGLE OVER MORGANSTOWN, CARDIFF: 2 NOV 2016
Michael Hopkins:
"20.35 on 02 November 2016 I was on my way home to Pontypridd from a friend's house in Cardiff and took a route along the A4054 as a change from the more direct route, the A470.
As I was approaching the Coryton interchange, Junction 32, on the Pendwyallt Road, I noticed some stationary lights in the sky approx above the Morganstown quarry. I pulled into the access road for the Village Hotel, and stopped my car and got out for abetter view. I saw a triangular object with a blue light on the far left corner,a red light on the far right corner and a slowly flashing red light in the centre of the triangle.
The near corner was in darkness and did not have a light, but the shape of the corner could be clearly seen every time the centre light flashed on. I turned to reach into my car for my phone with the intention of taking a photograph, but when I turned back with phone in hand, the object had gone.
There was no sign of lights moving away anywhere. I estimate that from initial observation of the object until its disappearance would have been around a minute. It must have been a cloudy night as no stars were visible."

.
Serena Bradbury was walking along the B4245 Caldicot By-pass in Caldicot to a friend's house and had just crossed the road near traffic lights at the junction with Woodstock Way. Looking up, she saw a very low bright flying object which was triangular. The witness's first thought was that it was a meteorite, then thought it was a Chinese lantern.
It hovered over her for 3-5 seconds, and she thought about stopping traffic but took out her phone to take a picture, by which time the object was speeding away from her, across the road and just above the trees.
'....didn't have time to zoom my camera on my rubbish iphone4 so just took 2 pictures first, then recorded the object, by that time was shaking as you will see. My phone ran out of storage, so watched the object fly out of view. Since the sighting I believe it was a military triangle drone, or the black triangle.'

13 AUGUST 2017 - CARDIFF
2 PM.
Richard Farrant in Cardiff, saw the shadow of an elongated triangular-shaped object on light patchy cloud as it was travelling west to east. When crossing the cloud break, the object was not visible. It made no change in direction and made no sound. No contrail was visible.
It travelled at a constant speed and altitude as the shadow it made on the clouds remained the same size.

OCTOBER 2017 - MUMBLES, GOWER
Exact date in October not known - ignore date in panel.
Approximately 3 AM. Cloudy sky with breaks.
Geoff Simpson was doing a spot of sea fishing on the island at Mumbles Head at low tide. He said he saw a large triangular-shaped craft hovering above him at about 1000 feet altitude.
"...looked around the size of a UK football ground in length. It was there for around 3 minutes in an eerie silence, and then just went up vertically until I lost sight of the craft. "
He added that there were no lights on the craft, and despite there being no moon and very dark could see it clearly.
"It sort of just made me look up, and I could see it plain as day! Although that night on my own I wasn't frightened by what I saw, more frightened by a fox that crept up on me trying to steal my bait."

1 AUGUST 2018 - PONTERWYD, CERIDIGION
4 AM.
A police medic was working the night shift and was travelling from Aberystwyth to Newtown on the A44. He was at Ponterwyd, travelling east, passing the George Borrow Hotel when he looked up in front of him and saw three lights which were blue, green and red in the formation of a triangle.
It was very big, about 200 feet above the ground, moving from right to left across the road in front of the car.
The witness opened the windows and turned the radio off and heard no sound coming from the object. Source: SUFON Files: witness email: 3 August 2018.
1 AUG 2018 - PONTERWYD, MID WALES
I work night shifts and had to travel from Aberystwyth to Newtown on A44.
At 0040 hrs I was on the A44 at Ponteryd in Ceridigion just by the George Borrow hotel traveling east.
I looked up Infront of me I saw 3 lights made up of a triangle the colours were probably blue green and red.
And was very big, I would say it was about 200 feet above the ground moving from right to left across the road Infront of the car .
I pulled the windows down and turned radio off and heard absolutely nothing.
I work as a medic for the Police . I am 100% sure that I saw this very unusual sight .
A friend suggested I contact you with this information. I would be very interested in learning more about this if you know. "

10 JUNE 2019 - PORT TALBOT
The witness spotted an object in the sky which at first thought was a large bird.
But then realised that the object did not change direction or height, was much larger and higher up than a bird.
After further observation it was noted that the object was spinning and 'changing shape', and was just a dot or triangular in shape. It was moving faster than what a helicopter would until it reached thick cloud over the Bristol Channel where it stopped for a while and continued out of sight.

NOVEMBER 26th 2019
Time 8.05 PM
I was driving towards Upper killay, just past 3 crosses turning, no car behind and only one just turning onto the road from Upper killay. Sky was clear above no cloud. . 3 white circles in a triangle pattern catch my eye in upper window screen. I lean forward and watch them race across the sky at lightening speed and vanish.
I had just passed turning for 3 crosses, heading to killay and it was more or less above me as it was towards top of window screen. I'm guessing at height, lower than a commercial flight but higher than the planes from fairwood airport. They came from (as crow flies) dunvant and 3 crosses direction.
No noise but 3 very distinct balls of light 2 behind and one in front. To far apart to be a plane as the front one was about 2cm infront of the others. They disappeared over the swansea football training ground. No lights on the training ground as all in darkness.. and no tails on the balls.
We checked plane finder and there were no planes in the area.
27 JANUARY 2020 - PEMBREY, CARMARTHENSHIRE
Witness description:
'I was in the park garden that face Pembrey Country Park when I saw three red lights in a triangle shape with a white light in the middle, hovering over the military range.
The object then moved from east to west, slowly descending behind tree until you could not see it. It made no sound and seemed not to have any windows. This is not the first time I have seen this.'

6 JUNE 2020 - CARDIFF
2.30 AM.
The witness was in the rear garden when an object described as translucent and V-shaped object was seen moving slowly at low altitude (less than 500 feet) over nearby houses. It made a slow left turn and moved out of sight of the witness.
Duration of sighting: 10-15 seconds.

7 AUGUST 2020 - PORT TALBOT
7.30 AM. Broken cloud.
Mark Rayworth was driving to work and passing Port Talbot on the eastbound M4 motorway. As he was approaching the end of the fly-over section of the motorway, roughly in line with the start of the steel works to the right, he spotted a bright white object at about a 30-40 degree elevation over the steel works. It was possibly reflecting the early morning sun but there was another object which was dark to its left. He managed to risk taking a photo with his phone but the dark object was not in frame.
He then saw a dark triangular object in the same area which he managed to photograph. This was moving to the south-east, and keeping pace with his car. To Mark's surprise it 'morphed' before his eyes into a black helicopter. Again, he took a photo. The helicopter suddenly turned on its axis and dived, again 'morphing' into a light aircraft!
He lost sight of the object then as he continued on his journey. Mark has suggested that his perception of the object had been changed by the object/its operators by switching frequency in order to appear to be an object acceptable to the percipient. However, despite there being many cases on file as evidence that this has indeed happened before, he acknowledges that this theory doesn't fit in that his phone camera recorded the changes in the object's appearance.

29 JUNE 2021 - CAERAU, CARDIFF
7.45 PM. Clear and bright, high cloud cover.
John R. was sitting on his porch in the Caerau area of Cardiff, looking up at the sky and spotted a small black dot at a high altitude in the north-west. It appeared to be moving in a south-easterly direction and never came near enough to afford a good view, but on one occasion, as it emerged from a cloud, appeared to flash silver and red.
The object moved very slowly and then entered clouds and did not reappear as it had done on previous occasions. The witness described the object as being an inverted pyramid in shape, and he was unable to get a photograph due to its high altitude.

6th October 2023 - M4, COYCHURCH
Approx 10 30pm
Whilst driving westwards along M4 near Coychurch Emlyn Williams noticed a bright turquois blue light about 200ft high at when I first saw it.moving opposite direction to way he was driving on the M4 on my right over Pencoed.
He stopped on hard shoulder to take photo backwards as it crossed the motorway behind him, there was traffic so couldn't get out, the photo only showed lensflare from cars. so he came off at next junction and turned left towards
Coychurch and parked to get a better view. But it was too far away by the time he could stop to see close
He Could see it had curved around to his left and was going in the same direction. As it went over in front of him it was a triangular formation of white lights with pulsing red light going over Pencoed around 500ft high and now heading north west.
At 10.40. he went on flight radar straight after but nothing in area and nothing moving in a North West direction.
sketch is chalk on paper
Plane over Brecon area was going West to East and around 30,000ft
Object is to the left of the lampost, no wasn't an orb it had three lights in triangle, it was roughly 1000ft by this time It was moving in a North West direction and was described as pulsing and not Navigation strobe light
.
The video is pretty inconclusive as it just looks like a strobe light but it goes with the witness testimony.
Witness interview with Mike Maunder at 10 45 directly after the sighting.

The evening of Wednesday 19th January 1983 started out much like any other cold winter evening in South Wales. Just after dark, people were heading home from work, making tea, watching TV. Some were heading to work, meeting friends, or walking the dog. Many children and teenagers were doing their paper rounds, hanging around on street corners, or walking with friends. Local football and rugby clubs were getting games or practice underway. Just a normal Wednesday evening in South Wales.
The weather was cold, it being mid-January, and the sky was starry with no wind. All was cold and clear. Then around 5.15 pm, the first sighting was made of Triangular craft at Llanelli heading towards Swansea.large objects in the sky over Gorseinon and Swansea - ranging from huge triangular-shaped craft to small triangular craft in two`s and three`s .
Over the next few hours, hundreds of people at locations across South Wales from Newport in the east to Swansea and Milford Haven in the west. They reported that the craft, sometimes single, sometimes in twos and threes, were the size of jumbo jets, football fields, sometimes moving slowly just feet over rooftops and some were motionless. But all were completely silent.
Many witnesses were close to the objects, just yards away in some cases, and remarkably were seen at different places at the same time - showing that many craft were involved. One came so low behind one man that he had to jump into a roadside ditch as he thought a truck was approaching from behind, as he sensed its presence.
Power outages were reported in several areas and a 3M factory in Fforestfach . Three separate witnesses reported strange effects, one in Newport and one in Swansea reported missing time and a Cardiff woman said she felt she was in a kind of bubble, separate from the world. A game of young rugby players in Llantwit Major was halted as a triangle flew over. And in Cardiff, many pupils of a primary school (after school and separately) witnessed a huge triangle flying low over Whitchurch.
SUFON has and is making contact with many of the witnesses, conducting interviews by video and by phone, documenting press cuttings and testimonies of the witnesses. Freedom of Information requests are being made and on this page, we are presenting all our findings of what went on that night in 1983, the night we have named: The Night of the Triangles.
