About 7 AM.

The witness said there is a possibility this happened in the summer of 1978.

Student David Edwards had a summer job working for Welsh Water. His duties involved taking sea water samples for example the blue flag scheme today,as part of the EU (EEC then) water quality directive, at beaches around north Pembrokeshire and take the samples back to Bolton Hill labs. One morning at about 7 am, he parked his van at the top of footpath that leads down to the beach at Druidston Haven, on St. Brides Bay, and walked down to the beach to take a water sample.

He couldn't see the sea from where he parked the van, nor as he descended down the hill, due to a layer of mist which covered it. It was dead still and calm without a breath of wind. As he proceeded down the path he passed through and below the mist layer and arrived at the beach. Now below the mist, he had a clear view of the sea, which he described as being like glass, it was so still.

The layer of mist was perhaps 20 - 30 ft above the surface of the water.

As he waded into the water to obtain his sample, a silver/metallic object shot across over the sea about 100 metres or more away, like a hovercraft and below the mist. There was no wake, but he thinks there might have been a disturbance of the water's surface. It was travelling at 40 mph or more, faster than any craft he had ever seen moving in or on the sea.

The object was larger than a speedboat but smaller than a ship. It was a few feet above the surface but not so high that he could see its underside. Its shape was low and sleek, with a curved surface or domed, like a disc.

He froze, despite wanting to turn and wade back out and make a run for it. He knew that if it saw him and came towards him it would do so in seconds, so he stayed put. He knew it was nothing he had ever seen before, and felt that he was not meant to see it.

Duration of sighting: a few seconds.
