John Newman was in a car with one other witness, driving along the coast road between Llanrhystud and Aberaeron. They saw a dull orange light within a sphere moving slowly over the sea:

"... in a lateral movement, heading east. Definitely not a Chinese lantern as was way too bright and moving laterally not vertically. Best way to describe would be as if a helicopter was flying with dim orange running lights in the cockpit."
